Origins of Kit Kat Chocolate Bars

The Kit Kat first came on the scene in the late 1690s in London’s Kit-Cat Club. It was originally known as Rowntrees Chocolate Crisp and the wrapper was a bright red. After two years on the shelves, the name was changed to Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp and the wrapper changed to blue. This early version of the kit kat bar did not have the tell-tale grooves that are now found in most Kit Kat varieties.

In 1958, Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp was renamed again and the grooves were added to create the iconic four-fingered shape. The advertising slogan, ‘Have a break, have a Kit Kat’ was coined, and the bar rapidly gained worldwide popularity.

Flavours and Variations

Kit Kats are now made in a variety of flavours and variations to keep chocolate-lovers on their toes. Kit Kat lovers can find anything from matcha green tea, to pumpkin spice, to peanut butter and white chocolate variations of the classic Kit Kat. Not to mention all of the different kinds of cookies and cream or raspberry cream options.

Not only are Kit Kat bars available in a huge selection of flavours, they are also available in several different shapes and sizes. You can find extra large Kit Kat bars, and even Kit Kat bars that come in the shape of a heart.

Go Global with Kit Kat Chocolate

Thanks to their delicious and unique flavour offerings, Kit Kats can be found in many countries around the world. In Japan alone, over two hundred unique flavours of the classic four-fingered treats have been produced since 2000, according to the Kit Kat website. This includes regional specialties like Purple Sweet Potato and Apple Vinegar variations.

Meanwhile, Kit Kats can also be found worldwide in stores and online. The Hershey’s Company has been producing the candy in the US since 1970, and retailers all over the world are now stocking up on the delicious goodies.

A Past and Future Favourite

It’s clear to see why Kit Kat has been a favourite for so many years. Its sweet, creamy chocolatey goodness is enjoyable no matter which way the wafers are shipped or what flavour they come in. The Kit Kat chocolate bar has been providing a sweet and crunchy break for generations, and it looks like it will carry on doing this for many years to come. So next time you get the urge, break me off a piece of that delicious Kit Kat bar.
